Botero, generated

While exploring the AI, and inspired by the painting style of the Colombian painter Fernando Botero, I used Midjourney to generate a series of retro images of real-life ”Botero-looking” models. I used a basic prompt and only directed the algorithm using the name of the painter. I generated some sceneries well-known in the painter’s style, as well as some abstract ones. Out of respect for the artist, this series is not, and will never be, for sale. None of the original pictures were used to generate these images.

Creating the series, I was really curious as to how the algorithm would deal with recreating Botero’s signature body features and shapes.

It wasn’t as creative as I had hoped – it only vaguely gave off the vibe of the original paintings’ style, or would just create very “painterly” faces, “very close” to Botero’s original pieces. Only one or two faces looked like a real-life creative exploration of the artist’s style, and the algorithms didn’t catch it to improve on it in later iterations. Same thing with the horses – they are more “big” that they are “Botero”.
